Common Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
Common sunflower is an annual plant from the Asteraceae family, originally from Mexico. It is cultivated worldwide for its edible seeds, which contain about 40% fat, of which as much as 88% are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs)—62% linoleic acid and 26% oleic acid. These fatty acids play an important role as tissue hormones with diverse effects. The seeds are rich in vitamins A, B3, D, and E, as well as minerals such as zinc, calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron. Sunflower seeds are used in baking as a topping for bread, as an ingredient in organic feed mixes, and for direct consumption.

The hulled sunflower seeds contain no impurities and have 60% high-energy natural oil, providing birds with long-lasting energy. Hulled seeds are very easy to consume for both large and small birds.
Sunflower seeds are especially rich in vitamins A, D, B, and B6, with sunflower being one of the richest sources of vitamin B6. They are recommended for people with dermatological issues.
