Racing pigeons derive up to approx. 10% of their energy needs from protein reserves, which largely occurs
through the "breakdown" of muscle tissue, causing them to lose body mass week by week during periods of intense physical activity.
Muscles require protein for rapid regeneration. A.P.F. is a natural muscle-binding agent, and thus has an anabolic effect.

During the racing season, the greatest muscle growth occurs during rest, that is, at night.
Therefore, it is recommended to administer A.P.F. 90 already in the evening before the day of flight.
As the difficulty of races increases, A.P.F. can be administered for 2–3 days.
